Imphal, December 21:
The Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench has today ordered the State Government to appoint the MPSC recommended candidates as college lecturers within three weeks from the date of the receipt of judgement.
Justice NS Singh gave the verdict on two petitions filed by 75 persons who were recommended as lecturers by the Manipur Public Service Commission in July last year.
The court on December 19 kept its judgement reserved and pronounced it today.
The recommended candidates are currently staging a relay hunger strike demanding their appointment.
In its verdict, the court considering the nature of the case observed that the basis of equity is that the judgement must have discretion to do justice in individual cases as law cannot be framed to cover all eventualities.
It is concerned with the substance not in the form and with the intention of the parties.
Meanwhile, the Students Federation of India, Manipur has demanded that the Government issue offer forms to the candidates immediately in view of the High Court verdict.
